Beginners Level 1 (A.1.1)

This is our first level and it's for students who have no Portuguese or only a few words or phrases.
All classes are interactive giving everyone a chance to join in and practice! They cover conversation, reading and listening skills. The written practice is covered in a home assignment which will be corrected by the teacher outside of class. 
  • What you will learn

    In this beginners' course, you will:

    • Learn to introduce yourself and others.
    • Talk about your nationality, age, family, place of origin and professions.
    • Use greetings and farewells in different situations.
    • Count and describe places, people and objects.
    • Ask and answer questions about personal details.
    • Share your hobbies, free-time activities and routine.
  • Grammar covered:

    • Key verbs: ser and ter, and regular -AR verbs.
    • The alphabet, spelling and pronunciation of the language and common structures of phrases.
    • Personal and Possessive pronouns and contractions (do, da, dos, das).
    • Common question words: what, who, where, and why.
    • Use of the feminine and negative, and singular and plural words in Portuguese.


By the end of the course, you’ll have a solid foundation to start speaking Portuguese in everyday situations!

Karoline Augustin

Karoline is a Brazilian teacher from Rio Grande do Sul. She holds a Teaching Degree in English Language from UNISINOS and a Postgraduate Diploma in Portuguese as a Second/Foreign Language from Universidade do Porto.

She has been teaching Portuguese to adults from diverse backgrounds for the past four years and English for over a decade. Karoline has taught students from Brazil, Portugal, the USA, the UK and Australia and has also worked as a Portuguese teaching intern at the University of Ljubljana.

Karoline loves travelling and getting to know new people and cultures. Having lived in Ireland, Slovenia, and now Portugal, she is passionate about helping students develop confidence and fluency in a new language.
